This course provides an introduction to interpretation for botanic garden professionals. We will look at what interpretation is and the role it can play in engaging visitors of botanic gardens with your collections and work. We will think about how to develop interpretation, including goals, themes, audiences, and top tips to consider. Finally, we will provide a range of examples showcasing best practice interpretation.

  • Have an appreciation of what interpretation means
  • Recognise the different types of interpretation
  • Understand the different approaches to interpretation
  • Understand the importance of audience, context, and outcomes for your interpretation
  • Recognise good practice in interpretation
